Sensible shoes

Time to put on some sensible shoes
Take the pups for a walk
No need to be stepping in doggy doo
So repeat after me
I pledge to scoop
My dogs poop
When I’m off my property
So that my dog
And other dogs
Will always be welcomed in public
No need for last call
On walking our doggies
But it is time for some sensible shoes for all

The Gas Man

This morning I was on a conference call, work related when all of a sudden all the hounds ran out of the office over to house yard. I heard some barking and the commotions kept up so I figured I better walk over and see what was up.

I discovered that the Southwest gas man had climb over my fence looking for the gas meter. Guess he didn’t bother to look on the side of the house. Mr Gas man was up against the wall fending for himself – he had 9 hounds all trying to jump on him and get some attention.

After I asked him if I could be of assistance, the Gas man just stated, “ah just trying to find the gas meter” which I replied back, “It’s on the side of the house”! He then said it scared him to death to be walking across the yard and all of a sudden have 9 hounds running after him.

Prevention

Today I want to spend a few moments reminding all of us about the importance of Flea and Tick prevention and also Heartworms. If you end up with an infestation of fleas or ticks in your house it can cost upwards of 700 plus dollars to fix. Much cheaper to buy some frontline and follow the instructions per your vet and manufacture.

Heartworms – very expensive to treat and treatment can be deadly. Visit http://www.heartwormsociety.org/ for information on heartworms. I noticed yesterday while reading that the recommendations now are year around prevention – not just when it is mosquito season. This makes sense. Here in Phoenix it is not mosquito season normally but we are having warm weather.

Today Dee is going to the vet and you can trust I will be stocking up on Heartgard and Frontline.

Show them you care and invest in some Flea&Tick and Heartworm prevention.

Three Dog Night

Last night Beauty and Dee had already claimed space in bed. I finally got in bed and watched a little TV. Remy came up to the bed and I had to tell her “Sorry girl the only space left is space I need to stretch my legs out”. Guess Remy only heard “Blah blah blah blah blah blah” cause she jumped right up and made herself comfortable.

I figured, ok, one of them will get tired of not having enough room and will eventually leave. I woke up with a sore neck, back this morning.

Don’t forget about heartworm prevention. It only takes one mosquito to infect your dog.
Heartworms inhabit the hearts and lungs of infected animals, causing debilitating disease and even death. Treatment is expensive and may be dangerous.

Better to be safe and use prevention.

Just a spark

The pups and I have been very busy since the New Year snuck up on us. I went to Orlando for the International veterinarian conference while the pups stayed home with my dog sitter. Ok I did bring them back some treats so they didn’t mind all that much that I was gone.

In between everything Marty had to be rushed to the vet. He was unable to walk – last disk in his spine had collapsed a bit on him and that is the disk where the nerves exit to head down to back legs. He is on medication now and is doing much better than I expected.

Then it was a weekend followed by yard work, trimming a few tree’s cleaning out a storage shed. Then the pups and I varnished the floors in the living room and dinning room. Now that I think about it, I really don’t remember the pups helping out on that project!

Yesterday was off to Costco to buy dog food. I figured I’d get the months supply that I need so it was 5-40lb bags of food. As I left Costco the person at the door said; “Well you are set for awhile on dog food”! I just smiled and said – well if a month is a while then you are correct!

Today’s safety tip – When replacing smoke detectors in the house, do not put the 9v battery in your pocket followed by keys. You might end up with a spark in your pants!

Push comes to Shove

Well, last night after a glorious victory by ASU in the Insight Bowl on TV, it was time to call it a night and get some sleep. Now even though I’m on vacation this week, I still have to get up early and do some support work for the folks I support over in the UK.

Not really sure how 2 greyhounds can make a California King size bed become something that has very little room left for a human, but Dee and Beauty did. I got in bed even though very little space was left. Mr. Dee was at the head of the bed and, pretty much had his head where my head needed to be.

I move his head ever so gently and jumped in. Dee pushed his head against my shoulders. I pushed back, he pushed harder, and I pushed even harder! This was going nowhere. No one was going to win the battle of headspace! What was I to do, I need my rest?

Cookie time – hey everyone who wants a cookie? So all the pups ran out into the yard, I grab 9 cookies from the laundry room, handed cookies out and made my way back into the house as quickly as possible.

*** Note 9 cookies handed out? Yep I have a foster. His name is Tacoma, sweet red fawn boy. He is going to California sometime in January on a haul out of Phoenix.

Hug them all,
Rory
